Course Background:

This course is essential for anyone required to use a chainsaw. Felling timber using chainsaws is one of the most dangerous tasks carried out on farms and in forests. 6.5% of all deaths on Irish farms are chainsaw related. This course will teach participants the necessary knowledge and skills to minimise the dangers of working with a chainsaw.

Course Content:

• Process individual windblown trees
• Operating a winch
• Site Safety
• Assessing windblown trees and deciding on the appropriate technique
• Cutting windblown trees using correct technique
• Cross cutting under tension and compression
• Removal of hazardous limbs
• Regulations and safety requirements relevant to windblown trees
• Dealing with dangerously hung-up trees

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course participants will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to safely operate and store a chainsaw.

This Course is Designed For:

Anyone required to use a chainsaw.

Training Methodology:

This course is classroom based and it is highly interactive with role-playing playing and practical exercises to reinforce the participants understanding and learning.

What to Bring to the Course:

Participants should wear comfortable clothing for practical activities. The basic chainsaw training course must be completed prior to this course.

Duration of the Course:

3 days.

Participants:

A maximum of 6 per course.

Certification:

Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive a certificate in advanced chainsaw training.
